MY THOUGHTS:
Wow, I was left speechless after reading this, but speechless in a 90% good way and 10% bad way. I honestly didn't know what to feel toward the MCs. I was slightly annoyed by the heroine Kat---who I think was TSTL---and a little bothered by the hero, Gav.
Gavriel aka Gav was an assassin---a serial killer---but a good killer, knowing that he kills men who abuse or hit their wives and child/ren. He had a very dark past where he experienced almost every abuse possible (which made him the killer he was). I felt sorry for him, but there were times where I just couldn't connect with him. Meanwhile, Kat was a typical heroine who thought of herself as a boring woman who works at a library. Honestly, I didn't like how the story started. It would've been better if she hadn't kissed Gav in the elevator who was every bit a stranger to her. But then as I read, I was starting to like how the story went. When Kat acted Nancy Drew and followed Gav in the first few chapters of the book, she was shocked with what she witnessed. And stupid Kat, of course she made a noise where Gav saw her gaping at him while he tortured a man in his home. He was contemplating on killing her since she saw him with a man tied and tortured in his kitchen home. But he finally decided that he wouldn't. He would keep her as his---his to protect, and his to do with whatever he want.
Call me crazy for liking this, but Kat and Gav almost drove me to the brink of losing my sanity. These two were both fucked up, messed up individuals and I love how perfect they were for each other. The suspense and dark not to mention erotic elements had me gripping on my seat tightly throughout the book and I was in awe of the author's vivid writing style. I hope there's a book two! I admit I'm still not satisfied with how the story ended but I'm glad Kat and Gav were both happy in each other's arms. This was my first novel by Aubrey Dark and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from her!
His is a dark erotic romance novel which can be read as standalone.
